In Louisiana, as across much of the United States, the concept of school choice has become a central pillar of education policy. Advocates argue that school choice—ranging from charter schools and voucher programs to private school options—empowers parents to choose the best educational path for their children. It promises more freedom, better educational outcomes, and increased competition that would supposedly benefit all students. While school choice policies may seem appealing in theory, they ultimately deepen the educational inequities already present in our system.
